26 March 2026. The Tactical Instructor Course (ETAP-I 26-2), held in Pisa from 24 to 26 March, has concluded successfully.
This second edition of 2026 saw the participation of pilots from Romania, Belgium and the Czech Republic, who, over three intensive days, received advanced training in tactical air transport operations based on the European Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (ETTP). The course was designed to train pilots as Tactical Instructors, with the aim of standardising procedures and strengthening interoperability between European air forces.
To this end, the academic programme included key subjects such as tactical communications, air-to-air engagements and instructional techniques and tools, as well as mission preparation and planning, amongst other areas fundamental to performance as a tactical instructor.
The theoretical sessions were complemented by practical exercises in a simulator, where participants applied briefing, execution and debriefing techniques in simulated operational environments.
Following each mission, the pilots were assessed in accordance with the standards established by the ETAP programme, ensuring a high level of readiness and a common basis of procedures among the multinational crews. This approach contributes to improving effectiveness and safety in joint and combined operations.
The graduation of the participants of the ETAP-I 26-2 course reinforces the participating nations’ commitment to the development of advanced tactical capabilities and international cooperation in the field of military air transport.

ETAP-I: the European benchmark for tactical instructor training
The ETAP-I (European Tactical Airlift Programme – Instructor) course aims to train pilots as tactical instructors in military airlift operations.
The programme is designed to provide participants with advanced and standardised knowledge of European Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (ETTP), as well as to develop their teaching skills in complex operational environments.
Its intensive nature and the small number of participants ensure highly specialised training, focused on improving the interoperability, safety and effectiveness of tactical air operations across Europe.
