Zaragoza has once again served as the backdrop for one of Europe’s most demanding advanced tactical training programmes of the year, reaffirming its status as a benchmark in operational preparation for aircrews.
Participants highlighted the course’s high level of difficulty, recognising the value of an experience that delivers realistic and effective preparation for high-risk scenarios in hostile environments. Throughout the programme, crews practised key tactics, techniques, and procedures designed to maximise survivability and operational effectiveness in conflict zones.
This edition was marked by the distinguished visit of His Majesty the King of Spain, who witnessed first-hand the tactical training undertaken by both national and European crews. His Majesty actively participated in one of the missions, flying aboard an A400M from Ala 31, and experiencing the challenges faced by aircrews during simulated operations that faithfully recreate real-world hostile scenarios.
The ambitious exercise featured tactical transport aircraft from Spain, Germany, Denmark, Romania, Poland, and the Czech Republic, including models such as the A400M, C-130J, C-27J, and C-295. It was made possible thanks to the involvement of key units from the Spanish Air and Space Force, including Ala 31, Ala 35, Ala 15, Ala 14, Ala 23, CINTAER, AOC, EADA, ETESDA, EMP, CECAF, GRUNOMAC, GRUCEMAC, ACAR “EL PRAT”, CIGES, Zaragoza Base Group, MAGEN Medical Unit, EZAPAC, BRIPAC, and the Mistral battery of RACA 20 from the Spanish Army. Their joint efforts enabled the construction of a complex tactical scenario that challenged crews and delivered a high level of realism and operational value.
With numerous missions conducted across locations such as Ablitas, Bardenas, San Gregorio, Teruel, Garray, Huesca, Villanubla, Tardienta airfield, Torremocha, Lumbier, and Santa Cilia, this training once again demonstrated its vital role in developing highly capable crews, enhancing their responsiveness to critical situations, and raising the standard of preparation for high-risk operations.
The Spanish Air and Space Force thus reaffirms its commitment to excellence and the professional development of its personnel, ensuring that crews gain a higher level of readiness and new tools to successfully navigate complex tactical scenarios.
